Here’s the history!
The beginning of escape rooms can be traced back to around the early noughties, when some video games started to feature the excitement of using logic and quick-thinking to flee a fantasy world.
In 2007, Japanese designer Takao Kato brought the first ever ‘live action' escape room to life in a Tokyo warehouse. Kato's ‘Real Escape Game’ saw players solving puzzles and challenges to escape a locked room within a fixed time limit - sounds familiar, right? It proved a massive success and within just a few years, escape rooms were springing up across the globe. And you can find some of the UK's very best at several of our Tenpin centres.
How do they work?
Instead of watching characters on a video game screen, YOU become the characters in a live action experience. Each room is ‘themed’ - so you can find yourself in all sorts of fantastic scenarios. For up to an hour, you need to use logical thinking and teamwork to solve an array of clues and make your escape. It's exciting, it's intriguing and it can get pretty tense. But when you crack that final clue, it's satisfying. And if you run out of time, don't worry - you can always return for another go!

Remember, an escape room only takes an hour - or a bit less if you're any good! And that leaves you LOADS of time to enjoy all our other activities. First up is Ten pin bowling and we're confident you won't find a better bowling experience anywhere else. Whether you're a bowling pro or a beginner, Tenpin centres provide a vibrant, fun atmosphere as you try to bag those strikes. It's colourful too, with our ultraviolet lights and fluorescent surfaces meaning you can even bowl in the dark! If you're hungry or thirsty, we've a fabulous range of food and drink that you can even order from, and have it brought to your lane. And if all that's not enough, some or all our centres also offer:
