Bowling Fashion

As much as we love them, we'll be the first to admit that bowling shoes have never been the height of fashion! So you might be surprised to hear that bowling-wear has actually given the fashion world some real gems, and inspired some of the looks we know and love!

Here's a run-down of the biggest and best bowling-inspired trends:

Bowling Bags

A staple in all fashion-savvy women's wardrobes, the practical and stylish bowling bag is a true must-have. As the name suggests, but you probably hadn't thought about, the bag was invented specially for bowlers to lug those heavy balls around!

They come in various sizes, to hold one, two or four balls. The fashion industry's take on the bowling bag is usually based on the larger, four ball model. Top designers, from Vivienne Westwood to Louis Vuitton, have taken the humble bag from the bowling alley to the catwalk. Ooo, fancy that!

50's Rockabilly

Tenpin bowling, as we know it, was born in 1940s and 50s America, where it quickly became a major form of entertainment. Bowling and fashion went hand in hand; the local alley was a cool hangout spot where youngsters would go to show off the hottest new trends.

Think T-Bird style jackets (customised for extra-street cred!), feminine flared skirts, and colour panel shirts aplenty.

The 50s bowling look has resurfaced in the fashion world in recent years, and become a well-loved trend that has people flocking to vintage stores!

Next time you head down to Tenpin, why not inject a little more fun into your visit by dressing up? Pair our bowling shoes with a cute rockabilly dress or a zip-up bowling jacket for a truly authentic experience.

The 'Charlie Harper'

Infamous comedy rogue Charlie Sheen is best known for his role as Charlie Harper in the massively successful Two and a Half Men. Bowling wear totally influences this character's iconic style. In fact, he's rarely seen on screen without one of his trademark bowling shirts. They're oversized, panelled and wide in the collar, reflecting the laid-back style Harper is known for.

Kitted out like that, Charlie would be ready to hit the lanes at Tenpin anytime!
